It all started with a coffee cup. We are a family that loves art and the Illy art deco coffee cup collection from a few years back, is something that caught our eye and yes we indulged! Ryan, loved the art deco collection, and it became a thing that our next restaurant had to have this theme. Parkhurst was the right space for it as it is culturally and artistically rich, with a touch of the necessary “Bohemian, ageing hippy and the in the moment hipsters”! We want our guests to feel like they were in another era. Welcome to the opulence of the roaring 20’s.
Okay so we know that all you want to hear about is food, wine and restaurants but we have been asked a bunch of times as to how we reached this point. So lets try and make sense of our off the wall approach!!
Our baby, the wild child, TRE was the result of our freaky obsession with art deco. The symbolism of art deco has not been lost on us, the power of 3 or 3 times the power. We are a family of 3 this is our 3rd restaurant and the number 3 is hugely significant in design and the fact that Luciana’s surname is actually TREccani, the number 3 is literally in our collective faces! Taking a leap triangles feature prominently in design, art, photography, nature and mathematics and ultimately Art Deco and they are 3! What we know is that three is a cornerstone when it comes to our view and perception of what pleases the eye, and what influences the mind, some of the most famous brand logos feature three in some way or another.
So here we are influenced by three and entranced by art deco and the insane desire to make all these work together in an harmonious space. The truth is that opening an art gallery might have sounded like a more right minded challenge. But no TRE was always going to happen. The design of Tre uses the opulence that comes from the 1920’s era of art deco. Let your mind wander, and it shouldn’t be to South Beach Miami but go to lines, triangles, sun rays, Egyptian influences, symmetry and a lot of sacred geometry. The Tre logo is a mix between art deco’s rays and the flower of life and our use of metals and materials is very prominent especially golds, grays, brass and marble. The crockery, cutlery and plates all have a very modern vintage feel and where possible we have found antique and vintage pieces to make you feel special in this space.
History shows that Italian Art Deco was copied from the French in the early 1920s but once it achieved popularity in Italy, Italian designers began to put their own stamp on it. We make this remark because we don’t want you to think that we have gone “off the reservation” here. Some might think that there is no link between Italians and Art Deco and that we arrived at this point from “left field”!! Hah.. not so, it is in our blood…but to reach this point required all the drama that pairs with “la vita Italiana”!
Well as say at home “andiamo alla magia di mangiare” , lets go to the magic of eating!!
