Steyn City
Our Story
Welcome To Cafe Del Sol
Café del Sol has been a firm favorite of Johannesburg’s food scene ever since it served up its first dish, redolent with the flavours of authentic Italian cuisine. That was 17 years ago, when the brand’s first restaurant – Café del Sol Classico – opened in Olivedale Corner Shopping Centre. It swiftly grew a reputation for outstanding food, richly authentic and prepared with love – and with service to match. That’s probably because Café del Sol was born out of a family’s love – for food, and for each other – with owners (son Ryan and daughter Chiara) learning to cook from their grandmother (Nonna Chiara), while their mother, Luciana, became legendary as a hostess. It wasn’t long before the restaurant’s popularity encouraged the family to open a second upmarket eatery. They pinpointed bustling Bryanston as their next locale, establishing the aptly named Café del Sol Botanico – with its trademark nature-inspired décor – as a
welcome urban oasis. Here, too, the irresistible combination of warm hospitality and outstanding food swiftly won over a sizeable following, while a number of awards cemented the brand’s reputation as one of the very best Italian eateries in Johannesburg. Now, Café del Sol is bringing the same tradition of excellence to Steyn City’s City Centre – a move the family is especially excited about, given the similarities between the sense of
freedom and community that prevails in the City Centre’s upper piazza, where residents gather, and the same family-friendly feel that’s present in every Italian town. The brand is thrilled to bring its trademark dishes to a new audience, welcoming residents and non-residents alike to an unforgettable al fresco dining experience to make new memories around the table with family, or to meet and exchange new ideas with friends,
colleagues and business partners.
A new menu has been created, featuring Neapolitan pizzas with their delectably light, airy dough bases hot from the pizza oven, along with some firm favourites borrowed from Café del Sol’s other eateries. There’s also a brand new cocktail menu and wine list to help guests linger over a true Italian dining experience. Guests can also expect a deli section crammed with the very best Italian produce, from cold meats to specialist cheeses (anyone for a creamy burrata?), crusty ciabatta and olives, to
homemade pasta sauces like pesto or napolitana, and soups – ideal for anyone wishing to impress their guests with a restaurant-quality cornucopia of delights, or simply treat their family to a Mediterranean-inspired feast at home.
For Steyn City residents on the go, the convenient option of grabbing a delicious home-cooked meal on the way home – steeped in the love of a family kitchen – and other items for the pantry has never been better-timed. Or simply pause to enjoy a delicious Illy coffee in the morning sun; indulge in a decadent slice of cake or homemade torte mid-afternoonwhile
watching passers-by in the piazza.
Like Steyn City, Café del Sol has built a reputation on an unswerving accent on quality, resulting in a match that goes together like pasta and parmesan.
